Beatty, Nevada was founded in the 1900s, in the Oasis Valley, as the railroad center of the Bullfrog Mining District. At one time there were three rail roads services that ran through Beatty to the near by town of Rhyolite. But now the mines have closed and Rhyolite is a ghost town and Beatty is a small town of one to two thousand people. But while it isn't the town of 3500 people it use to be, Beatty is still a thriving community offering excellent accommodations for the tourists as well as a fascinating history all of its own.
Bailey's Mineral Hot Spring is located 10 minutes north of town. There are three private bath houses with three different temperatures. At three dollars a person for thirty minutes it is quite the bargin.
The Beatty Museum and Historical Society is located just across the street from the El Portal Motel and is a great place to stop to learn more about the area and how it all began. The Museum originally began in a very small building with few items for show. It has since had to relocate three times and now has a wide arrangment of displays which bring the history of Beatty alive for all visitors.
